So what is the Great 500 Pound Declutter Challenge?
Well it all started here when someone asked me if I was pregnant. I know, that clearly makes no sense, but it's how it happened, so we just go with it. Long story short, I wasn't pregnant but it was a wake up call that I needed to take some control back over my life. And in doing so, one of the big things I really needed to do was bring some actual order and control to our house. The clutter was out of control.
So I just made up this idea. I was going to get rid of 500 pounds of true clutter. Not couches or tables. Junk. Little piddly junk.
So I decided I'd do it slow and steady. I'd simply pick one area at a time and tackle it.
I made a promise to myself that I would be ruthless. But I also promised myself that as I went through the areas I would take the time to laugh at myself and the absurdity of some of the things around the house. I'd take pictures and remember stories. And along the way, I'd sort the stuff out into four piles.
1. Donate
2. Recycle
3. Put Away
4. Throw Away
When I am done, I step on a scale by myself. And then I step back on holding the stuff in the donate, recycle and throw away categories. Yes, it looks ridiculous.
The original goal I set out was to get rid of at least 500 pounds of clutter from my life.
