(In case you don't know what a favicon is, it's actually short for "favorites icon" and it is the little image that you sometimes see appearing up in your browser bar next to the web address. See how mine has a hand there now? And yes, that is a sneak peak into some of what is coming with the blog redesign...)
It is amazingly easy (even for me) so I thought I'd share how to do it. Note that this is how I did it on Blogger, the code may vary on other platforms:
1. Pick an image that you want to use. For me, I just took a photo of my hand. Yup, that is my hand.
2. Crop it to be a square.
3. Resize it so that it's less than 1MB.
4. I used this site as they had the ability to host it for you (again, technology not being my strong suit) for free.
5. Upload the image. You will then have two code options pop up. I chose the second, which is to have them host it for you.
6. Before you do anything else, I recommend you save your template. Cause let's be real here, if you mess it up I am going to be of no help in fixing it. mmmkay? To do that go to your Blogger Dashboard and click on the top tab that says "Layout." Then click on the second row of tabs where it says "Edit HTML." Under where it says "Backup/Restore Template" you will see "Download Full Template." Click on that and save it.
(I have the actual code in the comments section, so feel free to copy it from there.)8. After the last character hit "return."
9. Then you will copy the html code from the iconj.com site in the line immediately below that code.
10. Don't click on anything else. At the bottom of your template box there, click on the middle blue box that says "PREVIEW." That will open a new screen and you should see, up there at the top next to the browser, your brand new cool favicon.
11. If it worked, go back and hit "SAVE TEMPLATE." And you're done!
