For those of you who have happened upon our blog because of the Mother's Day story, hello and welcome. You're welcome to read along. Happy Mother's Day to you. (If you are looking for some of the 500 Pound Declutter posts you can click here.)
And for those of you who have been reading for awhile (as well as new visitors) I thought I'd take you on a little trip down memory lane to the last time my writing was featured in our paper.
December 25, 1979 to be exact.
I was in kindergarten and my parents had me create the family Christmas card. They asked me to write a book. About me, about our family, about the meaning of Christmas. All from the perspective of 5-year-old me.
And I started it off with "My name is Molly Thacker. This is my story."
The book was about 10 pages long and I worked on it for weeks. It ultimately went out to 100 friends, families and neighbors. And someone thought enough of it that they called the paper who went on to do a story on the card and on me.
I was trying to think what I'd write about today after our story appeared in the paper. And then I remembered this story. I pulled the old copy out to look at it and was so struck by the words at the top.
My name is Molly Thacker. This is my story.
That is still what I am doing today. Writing. Thinking. Reflecting. Sharing my memories, ideas and views on things.
And someone thought enough of it that they posted a link on Facebook along the way and Molly Guthrey, the reporter who so wonderfully wrote today's story, saw it.
Sure things have changed. Technology. My name. The fact that last time I was photographed by a Pioneer Press reporter, I was in cable-knit tights without a stitch of makeup on. I don't wear sailor dresses too often anymore. And my handwriting, thankfully, has improved a bit.
But some things have not.
I am still Molly (Thacker) Snyder. And this is still our story.
