I have, what I fondly to refer to as, Popcorn Brain.
Never heard of it? Imagine you're making some popcorn on the stove. The first one pops and catches your eye. And you look at it. Excited. Then the second one pops and flies out of the pan and you go to retrieve it and you forget all about the first. And so it goes. Soon you have a whole pot of popcorn and aren't sure where to look. So you dump the butter on and move ahead with shoving it in your mouth. Okay, so the analogy ends at the point of the popping all over the place. Now I am hungry.
So it goes for me. I am a visual person. I have to see something to think about it. So if I am reading an article, news story or blog, if there is a link (or a piece of popcorn for the sake of the analogy) it's the new bright and shiny thing, the new kernel. I click on it and I am off to the next piece of popcorn. If I do that on a blog that isn't set up to open links in a new window that blog has, effectively, become that first piece of popcorn from my analogy. It's gone. But if you have links set up to open a new window, I will take a look at the new popcorn and then, because your link is still open, come back to your popcorn for more.
I have had several people email me to ask how I set up my blog to have the links open up in a new window. So I thought I'd share it with you.
Granted I am about as far from an html-knowledgeable person that there is, but here is how you do it.
1. Log into Blogger
2. Go to your dashboard
3. Click on "Layout"
4. Up near the top, click on "Edit HTML"
5. Search for this code:
And change that to read like this:
(Note: If you don't find it, you may need to click the little box in the upper right-hand side called "Expand Widget Templates" and then try again.)
6. Hit "Save Template"
And you're ready to go. Now grab some popcorn and enjoy popping around.
