I stared at it awhile before asking him what it was.
He shared it was a Paun'do (I think that was how he spelled it) a project they did as a part of their cultural heritage week. By his description, a Paun'do is a Hmong story quilt where you share your history, your life, what made you who you are.
I asked what other kids had depicted.
NOAH: Oh you know, their first trip to Nickelodeon Universe, going to Disney, their first Vikings or Twins games.
YOURS TRULY: What does yours depict, Noah?
NOAH: Being born.
So there is good news and bad news.
The good news: He gets that babies don't come from storks. He knows they are born naked. And that, perhaps, actually being born was a bigger deal than going to Disney.
The bad news: He thinks I was laying in state under a black shroud when he was born. He thinks I have blue eyes (so that whole "look me in the eyes" thing really isn't working.) He's pretty sure he just popped out of my stomach. And I was so big the bed was buckling under my weight.
Best part? Brian looked at it and thought it was a face.
