Day 16 of the 500 Pound Declutter - I Want a Cute Bathroom

Have a clutter or organization project you want to show off?
This week's new blog hop Linky is listed at the bottom of this post and will be open all week.
I have never had a cute master bathroom.  In fact, I have had some really ugly ones.  Like the time we tried to paint it a sunny yellow thinking it would warm it up and ended up with a hideous Big Bird yellow box.

Which is okay, because we are lucky enough to have a master bathroom in our home that no one really ever needs to go in.  But lately, I have been seeing people's cute bathroom projects and feeling a bit envious.  So I figured it was time to tackle my closet.

Brian thought I was nuts.

Here was where we started.  I do tend to be a bit of a stock-piler when it comes to hairspray, shampoo, etc.  If it's on sale I will buy it.  I don't plan to not have hair anytime soon, and it's not like the stuff expires.  So I have ended up with a bit of a stash of personal care items.

However, the wire shelving that came with our closet has always driven me crazy as stuff is always tipping and falling through it.  So awhile ago, I followed my friend's tip and added the shoe organizer to the door for the little stuff.

Along the way, I had picked up these drawers which never really worked that well, but I kept all the same.
It wasn't organized well.  The stuff I used the most, like towels and toilet paper were buried and things I didn't need to access daily or weekly, like extra shampoo, were eye level.

Did I mention I have a bit of a stock piling thing?  Yeah.  Razors.  Tons and tons of razors.  It's my own little brand of crazy here for your viewing pleasure.  I think razors are stupidly expensive.  So again, when they are on sale, and I have coupons, and I can get CVS bucks back, I buy them.  Giving no thought to the fact that I might already have 20 at home.  I rationalize that, despite the fact that I have been telling my legs to stop growing hair since I was about 12, they haven't taken the hint.  I am going to assume that will be the case for quite some time.  And again, this stuff doesn't expire.  So yeah, I've got some razors.
  Down here, too.

But while razors and shampoo don't expire (at least in my mind). Medications do.  Personally, I am not one to get too caught up in the whole "it's expired" deal.  I generally think it's a ploy to get you to buy more.  But figured it might be time to clean them out.  If they weren't something I actively needed, it was gone.

Cough syrup.  Well, evidently I haven't had a bad cough since 2006.  This one could go.

Contacts?  Neither of us wear them and Brian's an eye doctor, I think we know where to go if we need some, especially as they expired in 2005.

But the winner?  Calcium.  I suppose just having this in the closet isn't doing me much good, is it?  I guess I actually have to take it to get some benefit?

Even though it's 6 years expired.  Ah well, I am going to go on the assumption that means it's just a bit less effective and take it with a glass of milk.

Hmmm, mystery bottles.  Looks like conditioner, smells like conditioner. Will use it in the morning.
Yeah.  Not conditioner.  Lotion.  I have very soft hair now.  Bordering on lotion-y, really.

But by the time I got done (with a mini-break for a child-marker-eating emergency) I kind of had a cute bathroom closet.

I moved the summer sheets up high and put the second set of flannels where I could more easily reach them.  I organized the shampoos and conditioners into their own buckets, put all of the razors together, and grouped like-medications into pockets in the door.

I did keep one of the drawers, for nail polish and files as it actually works pretty well for that.

And I moved travel bags, extra toilet paper and kleenex to larger baskets on the floor.

Here is what I got rid of.  Bottles to recycle, trash and paper recycling.  I'm holding onto those drawers for now as I think I may use them in the garage.

For a total of 4 more pounds of clutter.

Bringing the grand total to:

308 pounds
