When Dinner Goes Wrong

I was feeling ambitious at 6:15 this morning.  I know, I shouldn't ever feel ambitious at that time of day.  Especially when we were already running late.  At least, not in the kitchen.  It just isn't my forte.  The kitchen that is.  Well, mornings either, but that's a separate issue.  But I was trying to be frugal and creative and semi-delicious (an impossible combination in my world).

I had a ham bone in the freezer from the holidays and so I pulled up a recipe for ham bone crock pot soup.  People loved it in the online reviews, so I took the extra time to pull it together before work today.  And if I wasn't already late, then I was uber-late.  And smelled like garlic.

We got home and it smelled good.

It looked...well it looked like a crock pot with a giant bone in it.

I served it to Eli first.  He wasn't impressed.  No, he was less that impressed.  He thought it was gross.

I was trying to pretend I wasn't hearing what I was hearing.  But after awhile I couldn't ignore it anymore.

Yes, he was telling me to put it in the garbage.

Ouch.

The big boys' response wasn't much different.  Noah picked at it and asked for a clementine.  And Caleb called it "Mushy" and ate a banana.  And when a banana isn't mushy compared to what you are eating, you know there is a problem.

And I called it another working mom failure.  So it was a night of chicken nuggets and bananas and clementines and Mom feeling like she should just stick with her good old standby recipes.
