The other day, I wrote about Caleb and his condition called "Discombobulation." It turns out it's not just Caleb. No, this morning I had to admit that Noah has it, too.
Well, really, it started last night. Both boys had Cub Scouts, so we got home and I sent them upstairs to get dressed. Twenty minutes later, I heard running and thumping and squealing. I called up to ask what was going on.
"We're playing!" reported Caleb.
"Are you dressed?"
Together, "No."
"Well, how about we do that?"
Five minutes later they came thundering down the stairs. Looking like this.
Yes, both of their shirts were misbuttoned. Noah's also was unbottoned for the top three buttons, all cheeseball style. And Caleb was still wearing a bulky hooded sweatshirt underneath. To say nothing of the football helmet. I can only guess that my "no throwing balls in the house" rule wasn't being followed just exactly. And yes, one of them is using the wrong hand to salute.
I was so proud.
As we left for the morning, I walked out to the cars in the garage to discover that Caleb had left his car door open last night. Not "just a crack" open. Like wide open, I-just-got-out-of-the-car-and-walked-away/a-whole-pack-of-clowns-could-get-in-and-out-right-now open. Amazingly, the car still started.
But then this morning, I couldn't ignore it anymore.
Noah definitely has Discombobulation, too.
Brian called me just after I had dropped off Eli to share a story.
Evidently, Noah has been unbuckling his seat beat a bit too early in the drop off process. Today, Brian heard the telltale click when they were still a block away.
Brian [turns around]: Noah, where is your seatbelt?
Noah: Ohhhh, I thought you were going to ask me where my backpack was!
Brian: What? Noah, where is your backpack?
Noah: I don't know? Oh no and Mom isn't home!
Brian: Is Mom ever home during school?
Noah: No.
So I drove back home and, sure enough, sitting right there in the back hall was his backpack.
However, just to the right of his backpack was this.
Yeah, those would be the diapers and wipes I was supposed to take to daycare for Eli today. I fear I may have a commando toddler. Cause I left them at home, too.
I got back in the car and headed back to Noah's school.
Where I found him, grateful. And sheepish.
I headed back to my car and drove to work. I parked in the parking lot, which is a few minutes away from my office. I grabbed what I needed for the day and headed into work.
I was telling my friend this story as I walked into my office and looked down.
"I forgot my shoes."
I fear I may have Discombobulation, too.
