As I mentioned before, through a combination of trying to be more environmentally conscious, trying to save money, and just trying to be plain Minnesota tough, we tend to keep our house pretty chilly in the winter and pretty warm in the summer. I air dry most of our clothes (Brian did request I no longer do the whites load that was as there "was just something wrong with crunchy socks"). We unplug stuff when we don't use it (and then curse it when our cell phones remain uncharged in the morning). And so on and so on.
And we don't win awards or anything. Until today. I had to laugh (and feel a bit vindicated) when I opened the mail to find our "Home Energy Report." Lo and behold, we use 38% less than "our neighbors." ("Our neighbors" are evidently a combination of 100 nearby homes that are relative in size.)
To top it off, out of those 100 households, we were the 5th most energy efficient over the past month.
However, there are tradeoffs to being a top-fiver. For instance, following is what Elijah chose to wear while playing tonight. No I am not kidding.
