Not so sure about that bearded guy

My friend, Julie Christensen, is a realtor with Edina Realty who has an office just a few blocks away.  Today they held their annual "Toys for Trees" party where the agents invite clients in to the office.  The clients are encouraged to bring toys to donate.

Then they have arts and crafts for the kids, cookies and drinks, a fresh tree for you to take home, and, the best part, Santa in a Sleigh along with two real reindeer.

We started off the day by taking Eli to the pediatrician's office to confirm that indeed, he did manage to pick up my strep throat from a week ago.  Antibiotics in hand, I picked up the other two boys and we headed to Julie's office.

The whole time, Eli was saying "Santa?  Yah.  Santa? Ho ho ho.  Santa?  Yah."  And I am thinking, good deal, this will be a non-traumatic first Santa meeting.

We got there and connected with one of Caleb and Noah's good friends, Chet, for some cookies, cocoa and arts and crafts.

Then it was time to head outside for the big meeting.  Eli was still totally into it.

"Santa?  Yah!  Santa!!!"

We waited in line for a few minutes.

And then Eli started to get a bit more skeptical about the whole deal.

We got to our turn and Eli very quickly made it loudly clear that he was not going to have anything to do with that bearded guy.  Reindeer or no reindeer.  He was creeped out.

Despite a valiant attempt by yours truly to show him it was okay and, even in fact, cool...

It was a no go.

And so the big boys took their turn and we called it a day.

I asked the big kids what they asked Santa for and, shouldn't have been surprised, but chuckled to myself about their answers.

Noah: "A Nintendo DS."

Caleb: "A new paper notebook." (Really, we do feed and clothe him.)

And Eli probably just thought to himself, "I want you to be sure that creepy guy doesn't come anywhere close to me again."

But as we turned to leave, Eli turned, smiled and waved loudly calling "Bye Santa!"

So Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.
