Her: Are you expecting again?
Me: [aghast] No!
Her: [stumbling] Oh, well, I mean, I was just thinking that, well, wow, I mean three little kids is a lot and, well I couldn't imagine that there would be another on the way...but maybe...
Me: No. Nope, not at all. Not pregnant. Really, really not pregnant.
And then she tried to head back to cube-land as fast as humanly possible.
But that was it, something I had been telling myself for awhile was smacking me hard (harder than I wanted, but hard all the same) in the face. It's time to take control.
I need to lose some weight. I need to clean out my house. I need to eat healthier. I need, I need, I need.
But I need to start somewhere.
Interestingly enough, before this lovely event today, I was noodling an idea last night. What if I issued a challenge to myself, via our blog, to declutter our lives. Our house, our cars, our closets, and even our bodies.
And so today it starts. My dad has often raved about Peter Walsh (they have done some work with him) and so I just ordered this book from Amazon. Once it comes, I am going to move from room to room with him and clean out. I'll keep you posted on the process.
Now I realize a book isn't the be-all, end-all. But it's time to shake things up.
Here is my goal:
Over the next year, I am going to remove 500 pounds of clutter from our lives. Not trash. That doesn't count, that would be going anyway. So this isn't 500 pounds of diapers. I am talking about honest to goodness CLUTTER.
And in regaining control of our house, I am going to make effort to translate that to other areas as well. (And if I can lose 15 pounds along the way and avoid future "When's the baby coming?" comments, that would be delightful.)
I will set aside a bag each week.
At the end of the week, I will weigh it. More often if I can.
I will throw away, give away and donate.
And by this time next year, I will have gotten rid of at least 500 pounds of clutter.
It starts tonight.

Hi friend! It has been a while since I checked in with you, either on the blog or in person. I am glad I read about the Chrsitmas cards or I would have thought maybe I was on your sh*t list. ;). I love that you are doing the de-clutter project. I read "It's All Too Much" by Peter Walsh but never followed through and did it. Typical. LOL. I have been doing some de-cluttering lately but I love the idea of a holistic goal with body, home, life. And how very ambitious to begin it before Christmas. Thanks for opening up and sharing the ugly stuff. We all have it and you have inspired me! Big hugs, L p.s. Watch for our holiday card with the picture which doubles as a FB profile pic. LOL.
Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment on my blog. Had to come by and "snoop" to see what your 500 lb declutter challenge was...I only wish I would have known about that before hand, it would be interesting to see how much crap I have taken out of my house.
O, I have had the whole are you expecting thing too...my youngest son was 4 years old. Yup time to get back on track! Grin
