Day Five of the 500 Pound Declutter - Basement Computer Desk

Ever since we got our laptop last year around Christmas, the basement computer desk has kind of languished.  Better put, it's become a dumping ground.  Now it doesn't help that this doubles as a storage room of sorts and the kids' playroom (and is therefore often a mess already), but the desk was a disaster inside and out.

So I tackled it tonight.
Found inside were several CDs I no longer wanted or needed.  Some I am tossing as they look pretty scratched up, some I put on Amazon to see if I can get rid of them there, and some went into the aforementioned half price books bag.

I also found not only my original "Facebook" from college (yes my young friends, back in the day before the Facebook we all know and love, there really was just a book of faces.)  Had to keep that.

Next in the pile were my two Chippewa Junior High yearbooks.  I laughed so hard going through them, I could hardly stand it.  Wow.  Good stuff.  Again, worth keeping.

What was not worth keeping were two extra copies of the last senior "Viewer" that was published before high school graduation.  As funny it may be that I was voted "Most likely to be the President," "First to make a million dollars" and "Best Actress," I don't think I need three copies to remind me of those funny facts as well as who had the fakest blonde hair and the best butt (neither were me).

Speaking of high school I also found my original driver's license.  Seeing that I don't look young enough to get carded at liquor stores anymore, I can't see how that will do me any good.  Gone.

Also found our two old Palms and a way to recycle them.  So they will ship out tomorrow.

And finally, came across the old maps from previous trips to Europe.  At first, they went into the "keep" pile until it occurred to me that, by the next time we get to Europe, I am pretty sure we'll just have a GPS that travels with us.  And so they went, too.

All told the grand total for stuff I purged today was:

8 pounds!

Bringing my total so far to an even 50 pounds.  10% of the goal!  450 pounds left.

Okay, I was going to say that the first picture was "nothing" compared to ours. Now, your desk just totally puts me to shame. Sigh.

I love the fact that you found ways of recycling the 'clutter', instead of just tossing it, willy-nilly, into the trash (I've done this, repeatedly, giving the illusion that I'm super organized!)
And yes, your desk puts me to shame, too. Great post!

Isn't it interesting what you find when you are trying to get organized?

Thanks for the inspiration, I have full intentions of cleaning but it hasn't happened yet. Will have to do it step by step. I will add it to my daily things to do... Wonder if my desk can be free of stuff? Time to purge!
